The latest round of debates

First let me say that Wednesday's debate was the most boring and horribly modified debate I have ever seen. The moderator was pathetic and antagonistic. She made a total mockery of the process. That being said, the one thing that made my day was when Thompson stood up to the moderator and refused to play her pathetic game. He called her out and it was clear, "this is a man who isn't going to take any crap!" This is the man I want representing me when push comes to shove because it is unlikely that he is going to be shoved around. I want someone with sound conservative values who cannot be buffaloed into letting his principles and integrity slide. It was a relief to see the real Fred emerge and just be himself.

IL Governors corrupt by...tradition

Golly, you mean Democrats are corrupt, too? Of course there are hints of the "Republicans, in retaliation for former Republican Governor who is serving time for corruption, are on a witch hunt, making outlandish accusations and keeping the government, now bogged down in ridiculous complaints, from functioning properly" defense even in the writing of this article...
Say it with me folks, "account-a-bil-ity"!

3 years sentence for owning a gun

Okay, before I start my rant let me just say that I take the murder of police officers very seriously and personally as my husband is a police officer, but this is just wrong!
This guy is a freaking moron, a degenerate, and a criminally irresponsible parent but a gross carriage of mis justice has been handed down to this idiot because the court felt it needed to find him guilty of something. The judge even acknowledges that it is unusual for a weapons charge to be brought before the court when the defendent has committed no other crime in association with the ownership of that weapon (but he sentences the guy anyway?!)
As far as I know, it's still not a crime to own a gun (and the gun in question was legally registered and locked up) and it is certainly not a crime to be a blithering idiot (though I definitely understand the prickling urge and to remove them from interaction with the rest of society) so what exactly is this guys' actual crime?
I know several major idiots who could use a good sentence away from the village, maybe the courts can find "something" to charge them with.

An accident?

China is still a Communist country, right? Does anyone else see the inherent stupidity with turnig a complete blind eye to them when entrusting them to manufacture our goods? Recalls

Eminent domain vs National Security

You know, I never hear liberals pitching a fit when Americans are robbed of their homes and inheritances to build, lets say, large strip malls, for the sake of "the good of the people", or should I say "eminent domain", why in the hell are they all of a sudden guilt laden and wringing their hands about displacing 35 families in Texas in the name of "national security"? Oh wait...that's why, it's for National Security, of course they are going to protest!

Defendant denies Sears Tower bombing plot

Defendant denies Sears Tower bombing plot
Well, I'm sure glad the defendants cleared that up for us. I'd hate to be the one to suspect a radical Islamist of plotting a mass murder of Americans and the demolition of large iconic buildings in our cities...it's not like we have historical evidence to base our suspicions on!

This is MY President!

Recalls, the Market and Oil...Oh my!

If I were a conspiracy theorist I would be having a field day the past week!

All the toys that are made in China (which amounts to something like 90% off all toys on the market) are being recalled...lead paint, drug laced toys and cribs. All I have to say about that is - outsourcing is finally kicking our ass in a way that will make more impact than just the loss of millions of jobs (which, seemingly, no one takes seriously anymore!). It's going to be a fluffy, furry kind of Christmas this year... a great year for animals in the pound.

Oil spills off the coast of San Francisco, a refinery on fire in Texas (possible arson), and oil prices approaching $100 a barrel (thats $3.20+ a gallon average at the pump for you and me). Again, if I were a conspiracy nut...I could scare the pants off myself in pretty short order. Did you also hear about the contractor that tried to slip a pipe bomb into the nuclear power plant outside Phoenix last week? (Just a little more fodder for those that would see these events as, less than coincidence)

The Stock Market took a serious spill yesterday, supposedly reacting to the housing market that has imploded leaving pox marks all over the landscape. (Shame on those silly banks trying to take advantage of low interest rates by hooking and reeling in people who were NEVER going to be able to afford their scam in the long run! Did they REALLY think they'd be making money when those ARM's swung and foreclosures were certainly going to be the order of the day?!)

And the Market is also reacting to outrageous oil prices. And to that, I have one answer - Anwar = less foreign dependence on oil! (Yes Mom, we need to drill there...the Caribou will adjust...the pipeline didn't displace them or cause them change their migratory patterns or disturb their mating or eating patterns in the least bit...they are thriving)
A second answer would be to cut some of the regulations that make it impossible to build and operate further refineries in this country (and the Environmentalists and liberal activists resound in a frenzy of screams and arm flaying...makes me giggle.)

Maybe it's just me, but it seems acting on little common sense instead of emotional PC crap could have prevented much of this and would go a long way to making positive changes for our Country in the future.

Separation of Church & State

I have been behind and distracted over the past year as we welcomed the newest member to our family a year ago in August and I have been buried in work from a business I opened around the same time - things have been crazy! So, I had a few minutes today and I am browsing around catching up on topics that are important to me, and i ran across the Michael Newdow lawsuit seeking to do away with The Pledge of Allegiance in public schools and his subsequent lawsuit seeking to have "In God We Trust" removed from US currency.
I read through the suit filed by Newdow's defense and their separation of church and state arguments. Needless to say, my mind is swimming.

The whole political and legal concept of "separation of church and state" is derived from the combination of two Clauses to the First Amendment: the Establishment Clause, which prevents the government from establishing a national religion, providing tax money or otherwise favoring any single religion or religion in general, and the Free Exercise Clause, which prevents government interference or restriction on the practice of private religions.

Basically, the Founders and Framers sought to protect religion from government corruption...but I ask you, did they also not seek to protect the government from religious fanatical corruption as well? Bear with me...I am not saying that religion in general is fanatical or corrupt...simply that the influence from any one religion, as opposed to consideration in general, can be corrupting as it appeals to the whole.

Newdow did not seek suit to have The Pledge removed from schools or "In God We Trust" removed from currency for the sake of Constitutionality, for the protection of rights or the good the people, nor did he act out of patriotism or nationality. No! He sought to have his proclaimed religion, atheism (I would argue "liberalism"), recognized, endorsed and shown favor by the government. He was demanding that the court actively violate the very rights he claimed were being denied in the first place.

Here is a guy that feels so inferior in his proclaimed "disbelief in God" that one of the argument points in his lawsuit claimed The Pledge of Allegiance was a reminder to him how unpopular, inferior and alienating his beliefs made him feel when surrounded by fellow Americans who clearly did not share in his beliefs (or disbeliefs, as it were)!

"...it borders on sophistry to suggest that a reasonable atheist would not feel less than a full member of the political community every time his fellow Americans recited, as part of their expression of patriotism and love for country, a phrase he believed to be false."

But Mr. Newdow, you are making yourself feel inferior. No one is denying you the right to NOT believe in the existence of God. You have denied His existence for yourself, as you feel inferior for your beliefs. That is a you problem...the government can hardly make that okay for you...that is not the role of the government you silly liberal. The separation of church and state is there to protect your practice of atheism without interference from the government, and conversely, to protect the government from the corruption of your liberalism that would have it bend a break the laws in favor of your "feelings".

Typical Clinton Vacilations and non-answers

Ask her a direct "yes" or "no" on an issue she's unprepared to answer (as would be the case with ANY direct question posed to a Clinton, regardless of gender) and what you get is Clintonian speech and non-answers, and when that doesn't work "Bad Bush, it's all his fault! Don't look at me blame Bush!" Pathetic...and still, I'll bet there are loonies on the left shaking their heads in absolute agreement with the "nothing" that she said and will come out in her defense proclaiming that she was "most profound and forthright"...pathetic (did I say that already?)

Lest we forget ..."FOB"

Just a quick refresher course lest we forget what has happened to many "friends" of the Clintons

Fred Thompson

I am waiting patiently for Sen. Thompson to officially throw his hat into the ring. There is just something about a person who says what he thinks because he believes it is right regardless of whether or not it is popular or will ultimately piss someone on the planet off. I can respect that and right now that is one of the big things that I am looking for in a candidate for president. I want someone who isn't affraid to ruffle feathers, who won't be bullied or swayed by the game that is "politics". I want someone who is determined to do what is best for the American people. He is all for streamlining government and tearing down the multi layers of bureaucracy and curbing spending. To me he is one of those people that just has a formidable presence about him and quite frankly, I like a president who no one wants to mess with. The Republican Party needs Fred Thompson out there in front leading the way. And when the time is right for Sen. Thompson I am confident he will offer himself up to the GOP as a candidate (at least I am hopeful) and he will have not only my vote but my full support as well. Go Fred Thompson! America needs you in 2008!
