Ding dong Saddam is dead!

A Happy New Year indeed!

Just read an excellent post from North American Patriot. Still don't believe the Islamic threat? Take a gander at this post and see if it doesn't bring things into perspective.

time to recover

I don't want to say that I was entirely surprised by the results of the election (I held out hope things would go very differently). I knew it wasn't going to be good when, on voting day, in the booth next to me, a thirty-something mom of at least two, that she had with her, was asked by her daughter, who appeared to be about the age of 12, "why aren't you voting Republican Mom?" And the mother's response was "because I don't agree with Bush...(and on and on and on with a civic lesson that was completely inappropriate in a polling facility). BTW, I know it is necessary sometimes to have the kiddies tag along when you go to cast your vote, I've done it several times, but this is definitely a time when "to be seen and not heard" is a good rule of thumb! Voting is done in separate semi-private cubicles (or something to that effect) for a reason. It is a private decision that should not be influenced or 'bothered' or 'aggravated' by other voters and certainly not other voters explaining to their children why they are or are not voting a certain way. Not only is this rude but could also be considered voter intimidation! Save the civic lesson for home, or at least confine it to the sign-in area prior to the actual voting area!) But I digress...
I certainly never got the blue flu like our fellow Dems did following their fallout after the last two presidential elections but there were aspects of the rolling tide that did take me back and cause me, like I hope it did many other Republicans, to think. After taking a real hard look at the results of the election, not just the red vs the blue, it is obvious that this was not exactly a win for the Democrats. What becomes very apparent is that a great many of those with conservative values shifted away from the Republican party. And with good reason; a great many in the Republican party shifted away from conservative values.
So what needs to be done? The Republicans need to work to pass the things they were put in office to tackle. Securing the Border WITHOUT amnesty, passing Social Security Reform, making the Bush Tax cuts permanent, show the laymen some shred of evidence of progress in Iraq (I take exception to the idea of all of a sudden needing to justify our actions in Iraq - hello, remember 9/11?! But that is a separate post all together)...and by God clean up their acts!!
The unfortunate and tragic part is Republicans had the opportunity to strong arm these changes through following Bush's reelection; and should have! Bipartisanship be damned, they had a referendum! Now it will be virtually impossible to make any headway in the issues that really matter. So for those who went to the poles to teach the Bush Administration a lesson, thank you very little. I understand your frustration, I do, but don't expect any great strides to come of such an impulsive and irresponsible move.
